This 1-day course is intended to train or refresh delegates in People Moving and Handling Practical Skills.
Our ‘public’ 1-day People Moving & Handling Practical Skills Course is available to anyone to book, and is ideal for training 1 to 6 delegates without all the added cost and complexity of arranging ‘on-site’ training at your own workplace. Maximum of 10 delegates per course. Certificates are issued to delegates on the successful completion of the course.
Overview of course content:
A practical, step-by-step course to teach (and refresh) delegates on safer technique for the supporting, lifting, moving, and handling of people. Maximum of 10 delegates per course. Time is set-aside at the end to consolidate what has been taught during the training. Certificates are issued to delegates on the successful completion of the course.
Course objectives:
- Be aware of current legislation appropriate to the moving and handling of people.
- Understand basic facts about musculoskeletal injury and the importance of prevention.
- Understanding of basic functional spinal anatomy and the importance of good posture in moving and handling.
- Recognise a risk situation in moving and handling and gain an appreciation of dynamic risk assessment.
- Understand the principles of moving and handling and the theory behind the principles.
- Observe and demonstrate good handling techniques.
- Observe and be able to apply the principles of good handling technique to practical situations of moving and handling (for one and two carer techniques).
Specific practical techniques covered:
- Walking a client
- The use of mobility aids
- Falling and fallen client
- Handing clients in and around chairs
- Sit-stand/stand-sit
- Chair and bed transfers
- Hoist training – mobile hoists and slings.
