What You’ll Learn – Key Objectives & Outcomes

Our Manual Handling Instructor Training course combines theory, practical skills, and teaching techniques to equip your team with the knowledge and confidence to deliver manual handling training within your organisation.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Understand key health and safety legislation relating to manual handling, including the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and the Manual Handling Operations Regulations (1992)
Recognise the principles of safe manual handling and how they apply to your specific workplace tasks
Identify high-risk manual handling activities and understand the causes and effects of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)
Use ergonomic principles to improve safety and reduce cumulative strain both at work and at home
Understand spinal mechanics and the link between poor posture, strain injuries, and long-term back issues
Carry out manual handling risk assessments using the TILE (Task, Individual, Load, Environment) method

Use the HSE’s MAC and RAPP tools to assess higher-risk activities and prioritise interventions
Demonstrate and instruct a range of safe manual handling techniques, including lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, and team handling
Develop and deliver training sessions, using a mix of theory, demonstrations, peer discussion, and feedback
Adapt instruction techniques to meet different learning styles and needs within your organisation
Confidently assess trainees’ performance and provide constructive feedback to help them improve
